My Favourite Photographer

I collect greater Christchurch cards and within these my favourite photographer is Sydney Charles Smith (1888-1972).

Born in Woodville, he opened a studio in Newtown, Wellington in 1909. The postcards were all published by Tanner Bros as part of their Maoriland Photographic Series and Photographic Series in the 1920's.

The postcards appeal to me because Smith captures the people and the time.
