Photographer - joseph zachariah "zak"

Joseph Zachariah was born at Hokitika in 1867. He moved to Wellington some time in the late 1890’s. A talent for photography was nurtured at the Wellington Camera Club and this lead to his first real photographic postcard (RPPC) in 1907. From this date on he produced many wonderful photographs distributed and sold as postcards.

He caught in his camera many social events, sporting fixtures, family and soldier portraits, ceremonies and festivities. His distinctive “Zak” trademark is inscribed on many of his postcards.

Zachariah died in 1965 and is buried at Karori Cemetery in Wellington, New Zealand.
